HERBS AND NUTRIENTS FOR A HAPPY PROSTATE: PLANT ESTROGENS, FLAVONOIDS, AND CAROTENOIDS
Plant Estrogens, Flavonoids, and Carotenoids: The use of plant estrogens or phytoestrogens was discussed in Chapter Five. Ingesting more and a wider variety of legumes, soy products, fruits and vegetables will ensure that you are getting the hundreds of beneficial plant chemicals. Some of these may have an enormous influence on the prostate gland.
There are also soy extracts that are being sold, such as genistein powder. No formal research is yet available regarding the use of this powder in terms of its effects on the prostate gland. However, it may theoretically hold promise. I would recommend, though, that whole foods, such as soy products, are not neglected and extracts taken only if there is a strong dislike for the taste of soy. Also, make sure to consume a variety of legumes. Incorporate in the diet lima, kidney, white, kudzu, pinto, and garbanzo beans, along with a number of different peas.
