NONSURGICAL TREATMENTS FOR BPH: SHARK CARTILAGE
Shark cartilage has been used by an increasing number of patients and clinicians to treat nonresponsive cancer and other degenerative diseases. The FDA has granted an investigational new drug application to Lane Labs USA, Inc., which will conduct a study to determine the effect of using shark cartilage to treat prostate cancer patients and AIDS patients who suffer from Kaposi's sarcoma.
The use of shark cartilage was the focus in 1993 of a 60 Minutes TV news story; another report later that year focused on a promising human clinical trial conducted in Cuba in which several terminal cancer patients responded positively to shark cartilage therapy. New studies are being conducted to determine its effect on prostate cancer.
Dr. Lane's recommended dosage is half a gram multiplied by the patient's weight. He claims that 7 to 8 grams a day may prevent recurrence of cancer, but he emphasizes that it should be accompanied by proper nutrition and either- a traditional or non-traditional treatment for prostate cancer.
